Description Olivem1000 (also called olive emulsifying wax) is a complete, self-thickening, natural, plant-derived emulsifying wax for creating oil-in-water emulsions. It is a naturally derived emulsifier which is obtained from Olive oil. It is 100% plant based, made from olive oil and has fatty acid composition which resembles skin. It is a PEG-free Oil in Water (O/W) emulsifier and has excellent anti-aging and anti-redness properties. INCI Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate Appearance Thin, flat white flakes. Solubility Soluble in oil, Alcohol (Ethanol), Glycerine, Propylene, water (hot) Usage rate The recommended usage of 2–8% depends on your desired viscosity. Serums, Milk and Lotions: 2-4% Mid-weight creams – 5-6% Richer body products – upto 8% Results will vary depending on other ingredients used in formulation. Emulsions reach their final viscosity on the next day. You can add 0.3% xanthan gum to increase stability of low viscosity emulsions. It also brings the “cleansing” element as Olivem 1000 is made up of molecules that have an oil-loving and a water-loving end; the oil-loving end grabs the oil on your skin, and the water-loving end grabs the water you are washing with to rinse away easily. Alternatives & Substitutions MONTANOV 68 (INCI: Cetearyl Alcohol & Cetearyl Glucoside) will work, though we found it soaps even more enthusiastically than Olivem 1000 does. For a non-natural alternative, you could use Emulsifying Wax NF. You cannot use a solubilizer, like Polysorbate 80, in place of Olivem 1000. You cannot use a true wax, like beeswax, in place of Olivem 1000. Do you need it? No, but if you want a “natural” emulsifying wax Olivem 1000 is likely the one can choose. Tips, Tricks, and Quirks The manufacturer recommends high-shear blending until the emulsion is formed, and then slower mixing throughout cooling.
