The mat allows you display the 12x16 center dimensions of the picture. 12x16 picture may also be taped to the back of the mat, before placing it into the frame. The frame itself is larger than the picture size by 0.75 inch on each side (16x20 frame will measure 17.5 x21.5). The picture display area of the mat is slightly smaller than the photo size by 0.25 inch on each side, for holding purposes. (the mat will display 11.5 x15.5). FULLY ASSEMBLED: The frames will arrive fully assembled (mat may be outside the frame), with display picture. Please hang these frames using the already installed back hooks. Do not hang by the frame border itself.
