I use EP PLASTIC EYES in all my streamer fly patterns and the reason is very simple - the trigger point of a predator fish is in the eyes and the gills. These eyes are not only three-dimensional and realistic, but add a little weight to the fly as well. My preference for attaching these eyes is with Zap glue and a cautery tool.
Anyone who has tied brush flies and other saltwater baitfish patterns knows that keeping the eyeballs glued on the feathers or fibers can be quite challenging. On the tying vice the glue-on eyes look bombproof, but one or two casts over the saltwater in the tropical heat typically results in a blind fly without eyes.
