Liquitex offers the broadest range of acrylic mediums to inspire creativity at every stage of the painting process. Liquitex fluid mediums perform much in the way that their name implies; they are fluid in nature and reduce viscosity of heavier paints and gels. They tend to self-level and do not retain brushstrokes. Liquitex fluid mediums modify acrylic paints in a variety of ways and contain acrylic resins to maintain or enhance adhesion and durability. Rather than using water to thin color down, these dedicated formulas maintain your paint structure so it dries normally, stays robust and keeps its archival permanence. Select from six professional fluid formulas in a choice of surface sheens and specialized results. From glazing to gloss boosting, adapt your paint to your practice, while Slow-Dri Medium and Palette Wetting Spray keep your acrylics workable for longer. WHAT IS A MEDIUM? Mediums are made with acrylic resin for adjusting how the paint works, feels and looks. They can be used to prepare your canvas, change the texture, adjust the flow, alter the working properties of the color or protect your painting. Because they include acrylic resin, mediums maintain or add to the stability of the paint film, and can be used in any amount desired. APPLICATIONS AS A MEDIUM As an Extender: Mix with Liquitex Soft Body Artist Colour to extend volume and increase transparency, while maintaining paint viscosity. Mix with Liquitex Heavy Body Artist Colour to extend volume and increase transparency, while decreasing paint viscosity. As a Fixative: Use as a fixative over artwork (acrylic paint, pastel, graphite, chalk) to increase gloss or shine. Mix 1 part Gloss Medium & Varnish to 1 part distilled water. Apply with atomizer or airbrush. As a Binder/Adhesive: Powdered pigments or aggregates may be mixed into Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish, however they must be compatible with acrylics. Collage material may be glued using Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish as a liquid glue. As a Ground: Use as transparent ground for acrylic paint instead of gesso to allow substrate to be seen. To prevent Substrate Induced Discoloration, wash cotton or linen canvas before use. With Powdered Pigments: Use as a binder with powdered pigments to make an inexpensive student grade Soft Body gloss paint.
