The Pilea peperomioides is also known as the Chinese Money Plant, Pancake, or UFO Plant. My favorite nickname though, is The Friendship Plant. Native to China, it is believed that a Norwegian missionary took cuttings with him when he returned home in the 1940s. And the way that this plant spread in popularity was through the sharing of its pups (babies). This is also why this plant is also known as the Friendship Plant.

Grow indoors in a warm, humid environment in bright indirect light. Avoid full sun. Use a peaty soil-based potting mix. Plants like high humidity, and appreciate humidified rooms or placement on a bed of wet pebbles. Water moderately in the growing season, and reduce watering in fall to late winter. Pinch stem tips as needed to keep plant compact. Easily propagated from stem cuttings, hence the sometimes used common names of friendship plant or panamiga.
