Collectible Guitar :: Then and Now - May/Jun 2014 by Collectible Guitar Magazine - Issuu
When the Flying V debuted in 1958, it was ahead of its time -- about nine years ahead, to be exact. Popular demand helped shape Gibson's decision to reintroduce it in 1967, this time with a sleek new look and a Vibrola tailpiece. Every profile, contour and detail has been rendered in exceptional detail for an unforgettable playing and ownership experience.
Gibson Custom Shop 1967 Mahogany Flying V with Vibrola - Sparkling Burgundy - New
Regardless of the fact that George Harrison and Eric Clapton rocked a '64 SG Standard, that model year was clearly a standout for SGs in general. The clunky side-pull vibrato had been replaced by the dependable Maestro Vibrola. The neck profiles had increased in size, resembling the profile found on 1959 Les Pauls. And the balance, playability and look of the SG seemed to come into its own.
