Learn to knit brioche, a wonderfully squishy double sided fabric! We'll be making a hat in this two-session class. You'll learn the basic brioche stitch in the first class, then learn to decrease in the second class and finish up your hat! The brioche stitch is more complex than most knitting stitches, but if you're already comfortable with knitting, purling, and fixing mistakes, this is a great new skill to add to your repertoire. And it's the most satisfying stitch once you get it! Note that there will be knitting homework you must complete between classes. Also note that for the December class, the first session is on a Saturday, and the second is on the following Sunday! INSTRUCTORCleo (they/she) PROJECTA two-color brioche hat. WHAT YOU WILL LEARNReading a pattern (including brioche stitch terminology), brioche stitches: slip one yarn over (slyo), brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), brioche decrease (brLsl dec). REQUIRED EXPERIENCEYou should be very comfortable with casting on, knitting, purling, and fixing simple mistakes in knitting before taking this class. REQUIRED YARN - available for purchase at the shopYou'll need about 174 yards of bulky weight yarn (split into 87 yards each of two colors) for this class. Browse our yarns here, or pick yours out on the day of the workshop (just make sure to come a few minutes early). REQUIRED TOOLS - available for purchase at the shopUS 10 / 6 mm 16 circular needles, and the same size in your preferred method for knitting the tops of hats closed (longer circulars for magic loop, double pointed needles, or our favorite: the FlexiFlips!)
