• I bought a sack full of this amazing antique brass jewelry at a market in Delhi in 1986. It was quite rare the time, bring sold by the gram like silver and I haven't seen any since, nor been able to find information about it. I expect this type of jewelry went out of fashion with the Gonds at least 50 years ago, and now just as with clothing, they favor more mainstream styles of jewelry popular in the areas where they live.

Brass Bead Necklace

This necklace is made of old translucent blue glass beads with gold accents. Some of the accents have white or cream highlights, but white has no real prominence in the color. The blue and gold beads are accentuated with unusual old octagonal brass beads. Interestingly, the oldest and the most unusual beads in this necklace are the small blue spacers, which are the so-called Nila glass excavated along the ancient caravan routes of West Africa.
