This versatile, easy-to-use and non-toxic dye is ready to deliver vibrant color to almost any type of fabric or fabric blend. Whatever your purpose, all you need is a washing machine, plastic container or stainless steel sink to get started. How to Dye Step 1: Remove Color (Optional) If your fabric is already white, you are good to go! If your fabric has an existing color, you can remove it with Rit Color Remover. You can also try overdyeing an existing color (more information on that here). Step 2: Choose a Shade You can go with an already bottled shade or one of our thousand color formulas. The bottom line is you have options. Step 3: Pick a Dye Method You can dye in a sink, bucket or even with your washing machine! Step 4: Create a Dye Bath We generally recommend mixing 4 ounces of dye with three gallons of hot water per pound of fabric. The key is to make sure your dye bath is big enough for the fabric to move freely. Step 5: Dye Your Fabric Depending on how bold of a color you are trying to achieve, this can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. Step 6: Use ColorStay Dye Fixative (Optional) After dyeing the fabric, consider using ColorStay Dye Fixative. It reduces bleeding, fading and even enhances the color of your clothing!
