Revive the therapeutic vintage sewing craft of Bargello with this stunning wall-hanging kit Bargello is a form of needlepoint embroidery stitching, made of flat long stitches sewn in symmetrical and geometric patterns. This simple yet therapeutic method of embroidery was said to originate from the Bargello Castle in Florence, Italy. Hence the name Bargello, but also why it can sometimes be called the 'Florentine Stitch'. But others believe it stems from the Hungarian long stitch. Bargello was particularly popular in the 1970s when bold patterns and colour combinations were used across fashion and homeware, and Bargello was featured in many handicraft books of the time. This Bargello kit by Suzie Jules mixes on-trend modern colourways with traditional 1970s patterns, to enable you to explore this creatively satisfying and therapeutic textile craft. Hand stitching needs good concentration and is excellent for keeping your mind active and therefore great for positive mental wellbeing. Suitable for any level of stitcher, as Bargello is formed of simple straight stitches building up the colour and pattern. After creating the foundation row, you can just carry on, but attention is needed to continue to ensure you are stitching the correct length and place. The first foundation row is important to be correct as this determines the rest of the pattern. This kit suits keen sewers who are patient and enjoy the process of sewing, and are happy to enjoy a project that takes time, and is not ideal for those looking for a quick and instant result! Although the final product is hugely gratifying! This kit provides you with all the equipment to make a simple wall hanging as pictured. However, you have the creative freedom to experiment, as the canvas can be easily cut into smaller pieces if you wanted, and the instructions give you three different original 1970s Bargello designs. You could frame your finished piece, or use leftover thread to create fringes, pompoms, or tassels. There are lots of possibilities and these are shown in the kit instructions. Each sample picture illustrates the three patterns included (Pattern 3 picture coming soon) All you need to do is decide what colour way of wool you would like.
