What Are Frankincense And Myrrh? - Farmers' Almanac - Plan Your

Frankincense (Boswellia) and Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha) have a rich heritage in the Christian tradition. These resins are produced by trees that grow alongside the Red Sea, the very sea the Israelites crossed when they escaped from Egypt. Frankincense and Myrrh, along with gold, were gifts given to Jesus by the Magi. Traditionally, Myrrh was used as part of the holy anointing (Exodus 30:22) and Frankincense was part of the holy incense (Exodus 30:24).
