He does all the work. I merely wait and trust. (Psalm 40:1-3)
I waited patiently for the Lord;
He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
out of the miry bog,
and [He] set my feet upon a rock,
[He] making my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth,
[He gave me] a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.
- Psalm 40:1-3 [bracketed items added by Jeff]
What an awesome Psalm! I added the bracketed items to further emphasize the point that He is doing ALL the heavy lifting. He does for each one of us that which we can’t possibly do for ourselves – we don’t have that power; we are not God. Our job is just to wait and to trust.
It’s easy, for me at least, to read scripture quickly and just blow right through some incredibly profound truths – really jaw-dropping concepts. Notice line two: “He INCLINED to me…”. Another translation says He “stooped down”. Take a moment to think of what that’s really saying; that the God of the universe who created everything, cares enough about each one of us, that He as a loving compassionate father, bends down and comes close to me to intimately be with me and care for me because He loves me. Today, dwell richly in that mind-blowing concept as you walk through today one step at a time trusting Him in all things. Enjoy the peace of that.
To the one who is worthy – be all praise and glory!
